Intro to Rugby with the New England Freejacks & Lyme Recreation

freejacks
The Lyme Recreation Department is partnering with Alex Magleby (CEO, New England Freejacks rugby team), to offer a free flag rugby program!

From Alex:

"Teams will be organized into appropriate age groups for the once-a-week Friday sessions, some groups will be 3pm to 4pm, with others 4pm to 5pm.

We will use a fun, safe environment to teach the fundamentals of catching, passing, running with the ball, running to support, and defensive skills in an entertaining games-based non-contact approach using the USA Rugby / USA Youth & High School rules of flag “Rookie Rugby”.

Whether your child wants to dive deep into rugby, or augment some of their current sporting endeavors, or simply to just run around and have great fun, this is for them! Girls and Boys welcome from K to 8th grade. Definitely no experience required!

Equipment: during the sessions we will have all balls, flags and flag belts, pinnies, cones and any other accoutrements of the rugby world available as needed. Recommend your child wear soccer cleats and weather appropriate clothing for spring outdoor run-arounds, and please bring an individual water bottle.

Games / practices: on Lyme School fields on Fridays beginning April 28 and running to June 2. We will host a jamboree on Saturday June 3rd with multiple games tentatively scheduled from ~9-12pm. For each Friday two-hour block younger groups will most likely be working in the 3pm to 4pm session slot and older groups the 4pm to 5pm, registration dependent."
