March report
Spring sports and summer camp registrations opened on March 5th, with many selling out within the first 20 minutes. We currently have 9 camps open, collaborating with the Upper Valley Trails Alliance, the Historical Society, the River Valley Tennis Club, and World Story Exchange. We have kept our numbers much smaller than usual, still adhering to our 4:1 ratio. As the state guidance opens up, so will our max. capacity for each camp.
Norwich Recreation and the Norwich Historical Society is working together on a Farm to Feast fundraiser, combining our bike tour program (with Jane LeMasurier) with the NHS podcast program. Participants will either ride bikes to collect brunch items at area farms, or drive cars to collect dinner items at the same farms. We have agreements with Sweetland, Honey Field and Hogwash farms, as well as King Arthur Flour and the Norwich Inn. We will work with our suppliers from Norwich Nailed It to supplement the farm items as needed. Currently, we are working on the menu and pricing, with a plan to open registration in April.
The ice rink was removed from the Town Green slowly with the water being directed to a storm water drain as it melted, so that the release of water had less potential impact on the MCS septic system. The DPW also
Norwich Recreation on MyRec now has two charitable giving fund options. One is for scholarships and other is our Girard Fund, which distributes grant awards annually for proposals from Norwich residents that “do the most good for the most people”.
