November report
Basketball opened their season on November 4th. Outreach was done prior to opening, after the Rec Council was alerted to the possibility of not being able to field any girls’ teams. We currently have: 3/4 Girls – 12 players, 5/6 Girls – 12 players, Boys – 29 players, 5/6 Boys – 26 players.
Babysitter Certification course filled up, and will include 3 Wind Down Counselors. The course is run by the Norwich Police Department.
The Haven hosted their largest Turkey Trot on Thanksgiving, recording 600+ runners in total.
Indoor Pickle members now number 24 players and growing!
Futsal (headed up by Watt Alexander), has joined the schedule of offerings in Tracy Hall Gym. It takes place on Tuesday evenings, at 8:15pm.
Weekday Wind Down was busy this month, participating in the Veterans Day ceremony, and preparing for the holidays with various crafts.
The ice rink was put up on the Town Green, with help from the DPW. Because of the many small tears, we spent quite some time working with repair tape on soggy ground, finally deciding to allow the liner to freeze to the earth before will did our base fill of 2” on the following Sunday. All looks great, and the Hosers are being lined up to start the season.
The pair of Norwich residents who have been grooming Huntley for the last 2 years has decided to take a break, but very quickly, 4 residents picked up the mantel. This year, Bob Fisken, Todd Sterling, Bruce Generaux, Christopher Coughlin and Mike Manning, along with additional help from occasional groomers, will maintain the ski track on Huntley Meadows.
